We got a new camera! We have a Canon Powershot SX 230HS. Right after Christmas we lost one of our cameras. (We still had mine, but it is very unfriendly). So we have felt like besides the cameras on our phones we did not have one. So for our anniversary we decided to get a camera. We are hoping that it will be a camera that grows with us. It is supposed to and we have noticed really good low light photos, and it has a fast shutter speed.
Searching for a Camera
So we had both done very little research into our previous cameras. Mine was O a digital camera for a pretty good price. Yeah I'll add that to my order. Hubs had a somewhat similar situation but did a hair more research by actually looking at it in the store. So we felt like we were starting from ground zero.
First we asked some family what they liked about their cameras and learned more about some features that way. Then we started online. We decided to mostly look at a specific brand of cameras just as a starting place. They are typically good cameras so we decided to start there. We found out that we wanted some specific numbers *check out the title (these are numbers more specific to the camera we got not necessarily what we had wanted.) We were still researching just random cameras and trying to figure out what was different.
Then we went to a store and got some really helpful advice form the associate there. Although we had started looking just at a specific brand we didn't feel like that was the brand we would get so we got some advice on tenancies of certain brands. We also figured out more specifically what we wanted. Here is a list of some features that we decided we wanted:
Burst mode or continuous shot
Aperture priority
Shutter priority
Manual mode
Big optical zoom
HD video capabilities
A wide angle shot a low number of at least 5.0 (28mm equivalency in 35mm terms)
O and I want it to fit in pocket
So with this list we looked at some different qualifying cameras. It felt so long to get to this point. I had in mind already what camera we should get, but Hubs was really good at wanting to research into cheaper (still quality) versions. We looked online at some CNET reviews. These reviews have been so helpful to us when choosing electronics.
Then WE FINALLY FOUND ONE!
Buying a Camera
Where on earth can you find the best price for a camera? Well one can try Google shopper, or just research different on different websites. So we were going to buy the camera online. We felt pretty comfortable with it and we were going to do it... I just wanted to sleep on it one more night. Monday came around and at the very last minute we decided to buy in store. (It was the same price just fewer rewards.) We are so excited about it. Reviews have helped us know some shortcomings right away and also some really big perks about our camera too. Here is what our camera looks like.
Check out that Zoom!
Back (3 inch LCD Screen). *Perk
Front view all closed up.
So this camera isn't quite a compact pocket size, not my pockets anyway. The Hubs' pockets are sufficient though. We are really happy and excited to try it out when Niecer comes to visit us this weekend!
