mostly fun weekend

Camping
Saturday we went 'Camping'.   We went to the Mapes State Park and it was beautiful. It was a drizzly kind of day so we were glad that we didn't set up the tent and lots of food and such.  However, we got to scope out some camp sites that we may use sometime. There are a couple beautiful ones that over look the lake and are pretty flat without slopes. Hopefully those aren't all reserved already.  Hubs and I walked around this lake. It was beautiful.  There were quite a few trails, so it will be fun to go back there and check them out. There were quite a few mosquitoes in the wet grass area.  Glad we had on our rain jackets and long pants and rain boots!

These are photos that I took with my phone. It was a lovely walk.  We brought chips, bars, oranges, pop, and those seemed to tide us over.  This was a very fun trip because I surprised Hubs with the adventure.  I told him a little bit about it the night before. (When the marathon/ 5k was blocking our every move.)  So he finally guessed it when we were heading east.

Surprises
There were a few other things that I surprised Hubs with.  I bought some bacon, we made homemade pizza, he got some cheeseburgers, some gooey caramel brownie bars, movies Shrek the final Chapter and SharkTale.  SharkTale was okay, Shrek was fun.  Food was delicious.  He even made the burgers. Little surprise for me I guess.

Another surprise, but not so fun... little black ants. They typically have a nest or colony outside and find their way inside when foraging for food.  We found quite a few on Saturday.  We killed almost everyone we saw.  (I lost one and Hubs wanted to see where they were coming from.) Yesterday the rain held them back.  Today I found one more. We set up a couple ant traps, these are supposed to attract them to the trap and then they bring the poison to their home and help kill their colony.  Sounds kind of cruel. We would prefer to caulk all around the area we have seen them coming in through.  However, we are unsure we are allowed to do that to University property. So until we can get some answers traps, squashing and extra cleaning are our solutions.

I must say that I am really grossed out by them.  However, after doing some research,  of all the ants to get into our home, I am glad that they are just little black ants.  They are not fire ants, crazy raspberry ants, carpenter ants, or pharaoh ants.  Those all look a lot meaner.

Proverbs has this to say about the ant: Proverbs 6:6-8 -  Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! 7 It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, 8 yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.

In Conclusion, it has been a mostly fun weekend.
